At The Trots, we have drivers instead of jockeys, and instead of sitting in a saddle, drivers sit in lightweight two-wheeled carts called sulkies. Races range from 1600 to 3200 metres with each driver working to get the best out of their horse over the distance, while looking for that just-big-enough gap to move through. Think of it like an F1 field where every car has a mind of its own! Then it’s foot to the floor for the final stretch, with centimetres sometimes separating the top three and making the difference between a payday (and a payout for the punters) and a slow walk back to the stables to plan for next time.
