Firsties Methven is a relaxed, hosted raceday experience designed for first-timers, casual racegoers, and anyone keen to bring a few mates along.
Entry is completely free, just register and come along.
You don’t need to know anything about racing. We keep it friendly, simple, and welcoming from the moment you arrive.
Running from 1pm – 4pm at Mt Harding Raceway, this is a laid-back Sunday social with your own Firsties space close to the action. Methven is a BYO venue, so you’re welcome to bring your own drinks and settle in for an easy afternoon at the trots.

The first 50 tickets registered will go in the draw to win a double pass to Ōpuke Thermal Pools & Spa (valued at over $120), located right next to the raceway. The winner must be on course at Firsties Methven to claim it.

Need to know
Do I need to know anything about racing?
Not at all. You don’t need to be an expert. Our Firsties Host will explain how it works and make sure you feel comfortable.
Do I have to bet?
Nope. Betting is completely optional. You can simply enjoy the racing and the atmosphere.
What should I wear?
There’s no dress code, come as you are. It’s a relaxed Sunday afternoon. Think backyard BBQ vibes.
What time should I arrive?
The event runs from 1pm to 4pm. You can arrive anytime that suits.
How long do I have to stay?
Completely up to you. Stay for a couple of races or settle in for the full afternoon.
Is there parking?
Yes, free on-site parking is available close to the Firsties area.
